NetworkManager

Postby joaoreis on Mon Mar 10, 2008 1:56 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a rt2500 working with ndiswrapper, nm-applet (dhcbdb, rc.networkmanager, wpa_supplincat) loads right, it can detect near networks correctly, but when I try to connect to a simple WEP network, it seems to connect but no IP is given. If I set manually the IP, I can't ping the gateway either. If use via command line iwconfig (iwconfig wlan0 channel 8 mode managed essid "home_lan" key open s:secretkey) I can get IP by DHCP (using "dhcpcd wlan0") and it works just fine. I would like to know if there is any known issues regarding this situation, since I would like to use just NetworkManager to connect to wifi networks.

TIA,
Joao Reis.

Hi Joao,

I also have a rt2500. I'm on Slackware12.2, but currently without DLG.
I'm using the drivers part of the 2.6.27.31 kernel, but I'm not able to connect at all after installing 12.2.

Are you using the the drivers part of the kernel or a legacy drivers?

When I was at Slackware12.1 with DLG I used I used the legacy driver and Rutilt, but it took some effort to get it working:

You can also try using Wicd from extra on the Slackware CD. I only used it very short but it looks very promising.

People, I really hope that slack 13.1 gets released soon and we do a 2.30 dlg quickly, in that case
we will have Network Manager 0.8.x which seems that is a well reworked code.
